An engagement session is a relaxed hour or two before the wedding — a chance to get comfortable on camera and come away with portraits you love.

Why I recommend one to every couple

The wedding day itself moves fast — there's no time to "warm up" in front of the camera between the ceremony and the first dance. An engagement session solves that ahead of time. By the time your wedding rolls around, you already know how to move together, where to look, how to just be yourselves while I'm photographing you. It shows up in every portrait afterward.

What makes a session unique

I try to steer away from generic backdrops. A parking garage at golden hour, a favorite coffee shop, the trail where you had your first date — the location should mean something to you, not just look good in a photo. The best engagement sessions I've shot are the ones where the couple picked a place with a story attached, because that story comes through in the images.

What to actually expect

Plan for sixty to ninety minutes, two outfit options if you want them, and honestly — very little direction from me beyond "walk over there and talk to each other." I'm there to catch what's real between you, not to pose you into something stiff. Most couples tell me the second half of the session felt like they forgot the camera was even there. That's exactly the point.
