What matters most
Golden hour downtown, a family of four, and about an hour of walking, laughing, and one very patient dad carrying a kid on his shoulders. No forced smiles here — just the in-between moments: a hand held crossing the street, a quiet lean on dad's shoulder, brothers being brothers against a rusted steel wall. This is what a family session with me looks like when everyone just shows up as themselves.
I've spent 17 years behind the camera, and family sessions are some of my favorite work — no posed stiffness, just real people being themselves for an hour. I've now photographed more than 1,000 families, and the sessions that turn out best are always the ones where everyone forgets I'm there.
